Hi,

I'm Liam

UX and website designer based in New York City, currently available for projects.

I design websites and digital products for mission-focused organizations aiming at building a better world.

Career

I used to work at the nonprofit HomeWorks Trenton, an after-school residential program that enriches and empowers young women in Trenton, NJ. I led the design and development of their digital platforms, adapted SEO strategies to advise on marketing strategy, and developed and ran programs including a dance curriculum focused on self-empowerment and community building. Check out the website I created here.

After my time at HomeWorks, I began working as an independent consultant for businesses ranging from small nonprofits to climate startups to multinational corporations like Microsoft.

I believe in creating designs that honor the stories and ideas of the people at the heart of their organization. Design is the architecture of a digital landscape where people enact their identity, find community, and live out a large part of their lives. I think it's incredibly important for that landscape to reflect a just and inclusive vision of our world.

Building on my experience at HomeWorks, I will always use my position to create and advocate for underrepresented / marginalized folx in tech by committing to human-centered, accessible design.

Studies

I studied Philosophy at Princeton University with minors in Dance and German. In my research, I explored topics including aesthetics, epistemology, consciousness, and the history and politics of hip hop dance. My senior thesis in Philosophy, How the Art of Movement Makes Meaning, proposed a new model for interpreting meaning from art by developing the idea of interpretive individualism. I also created a 20-minute dance film that reflected on my grandfather's experience with dementia, and the questions of memory, identity, and subjectivity that his condition gave rise to. You can watch it here.

After graduating, I enrolled in DesignLab UX Academy to study User Experience and User Interface design . Throughout the six-month intensive course, I created four end-to-end case studies, met weekly with working design experts for critiques, and explored topics including design-thinking, user research, prototyping and visual design.

Everything else

When I'm not working, creating, or practicing, I try to spend time reading, listening to music, and when I can, touching grass. I enjoy taking trips to rock climb or hike with friends and family, reconnecting and resetting from my intensely digital existence. When I'm lucky enough to travel outside the country, I love the process of encountering and exchanging with new cultures - I've lived in Shanghai, Zurich, Cape Town, and Germany. And when I'm stuck at home, I fall into the writings of my favorite authors and thinkers.

Let's work together.

I'm always happy to talk about exciting new projects or ideas! Contact me if you'd like to collaborate or connect.
